Luke is 6 months old!!
Luke is so big! He is growing so much! The biggest acomplishment is that he is now sitting up. He loves to be able to sit up and play with toys. He sometimes will fall over because he is looking too far up or if he is tired, but when he fall he does it slowly and never cries. The best thing is Luke takes two awesome naps a day in his crib!!! YAY!! He is still sleeping through the night too. So mommy gets time each day to exercise, and clean, or waste time on pinterest. :) He lifts is arms out for daddy and mommy to hold him, which we LOVE!!! Keven loves to come home from school and have Luke get excited to see him. We bought Luke a high chair after returning home from Utah, and we Love it! Probably one of my favorite purchases. Luke is so cute in it. Oh and Luke has been eating three meals a day now. We started him on baby food when we got home from Utah. We started with squash, then carrots(which have been the favorite), then sweet potatoes, applesauce, pears, and bananas. Luke wasn't a fan of the texture of the pears, but loved apples and bananas. Luke started to gag on rice cereal, so we add a tiny bit of apple juice to it, and now he loves it again. We just started introducing the other 1st foods, he hates green beans and peas, and has to have a few bites of peaches before he thinks they taste good. Silly boy. Luke got sick though right after we introduced these so we haven't tried them since. Yesterday was the first day that he has felt well again. It has been two very long weeks with a sick baby boy.
So here is the story of our last two weeks... On Aug 30th, Luke was not his happy self, very clingy, not eating well, and pulling on his ear a bit. This got worse on Friday, like he was not napping well at all, and being so fussy, running a low grade temp. So I called the doctor and got an appointment for that day since it was Labor day weekend. the doctor said "he doesn't have an ear infection yet.." she said it usually takes three fussy days to manifest in the ear. So we were sent home with a Rx for numbing ear drops. Luke was able to nap if I gave him ear drops and Tylenol. So we did this for days. We even took him to the beach the next day, because he wasn't too sick... I will talk about the beach in a sec... The next week he slowly got worse. I kept debating on whether to take him in or not since he had his 6 month well visit that friday. Wednesday was bad, and after an aweful night I called the doctor the next morning and just about begged for an antibiotic (I was 100% sure he had an ear infection... why else would a baby grab both ears and hang on them while sleeping ??) She gave me the Rx since I had an appointment the following day. Luke slept worse than he ever did in the history of Luke... this is how I really knew something was wrong. Friday we did the well visit, Luke was 18 lbs (56th %ile) and 27.5 inches long (81st %ile) And still 30th %ile for his head. Poor kid has my tiny head. Everything looked good, he even flirted with the doctor. Don't you just love that a sick baby never really acts sick at the doctors? It was even nap time. The doctor checked his ears at the end. She could not get the wax out of his ear in order to see it so she had to irrigate it. I had to hold him still, while she did it, and oh how he was not happy. Poor baby just cried. After the wax came out, a quick look confirmed that little Luke did have an ear infection.
We thought all was going to get better by being on the antibiotics, but no.... instead our little guy got the common symptoms of abx... diarrhea and an occasional vomit episode. And you know what follows diarrhea... diaper rash. It was so bad. We have had an awful week. But good news is. Luke is better, we believe. He has been diarrhea free for two days and pooped a normal poop (I was afraid that my efforts to stop the diarrhea would constipate him :)) And last night our little guy slept 12 hours straight... and he is currently taking a 2+ hour nap. YAY!!!
So that was the story about our first experience with a sick baby, we hope to not have too many. They sure do wear you out. Keven has now completed 3 weeks of his second year in dental school. He only hates being away from his baby for all day everyday.
Before school started again we took a family day trip to Wshington DC to see a few museums that we wanted to take time to see. here are a couple of those pictures. We had a wonderful day.
Luke went swimming for the first time...
Here is pictures of his first taste of squash
Now for some random pictures of our sweet little guy. Can you tell we just love him and think he is just the cutest thing ?
